All Kinds of Limbo is a unique musical performance which takes the audience on a musical journey inspired by the influence of Caribbean culture on the UK’s music scene, across the genres of reggae, grime, classical and calypso.
Audiences step into a VR performance space with the musicians for an immersive musical experience.
Surround Vision were involved in concepting and development of this cutting-edge production that uses the latest holographic capture techniques.

All Kinds of Limbo is not your standard National Theatre show. An audience of up to 20 people simultaneously join from anywhere in the world to watch a volumetrically captured performance scored by Raffy Bushman and performed by Nubiya Brandon.
Inspired by the influence of Caribbean culture, the 10 minute performance takes the audience on a musical journey. During the experience, the audience is able to move around the performance freely to view Nubiya perform from any angle as she takes them on a journey through classical, grime, reggae and calypso.
The ten minute performance was captured volumetrically by the amazing team at Dimension Studios in London, before the surround Vision team in Collaboration with the NT and began the task of integrating other band members and the digital sets.
Results
All Kinds of Limbo debuted at Sundance in January 2020 and went on to show at the Tate, London and IDFA, Amsterdam.
The result is an intimate, immersive and life-size performance that merges technology and creativity and offers a peek into the kind of technology that will likely shape future theatre shows.
